Ci ho sentito dentro: Badly Drawn Boy, dance lustrinata varia, Lord Huron, Elliott Smith, Phoenix.
Comunque DREAMS resta uno dei brani solari più belli dell'anno

nuovo singolo per Beck, ricorda molto il suo periodo Sea Change

C'avevo provato tante volte con Mutations in passato. Mai scoccato l'amore.
Non ci trovavo nemmeno queste similitudini con Sea Change - che viene dopo, ma che ho ascoltato e amato molto di più - che invece ci sono eccome, almeno per una buona metà del disco.
Oggi finalmente lo sto capendo.

Ride Lonesome, nuovo pezzo

My new album “Ride Lonesome” is coming out this fall. The musicians from my original touring and recording band that I recorded “Sea Change,” “Morning Phase” and “Mutations” with — Smokey Hormel, Joey Waronker, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Roger Joseph Manning, and Jason Falkner— reconvened with me at my favorite studio (Room B at United Studios in Hollywood). We had Nigel Godrich, who worked on “Sea Change” and “Mutations” with us mixing all the songs. It had been a decade since we went in the studio and recorded “Morning Phase.” This time It felt like the playing and the chemistry had evolved and deepened— a sound that’s come together over the decades of working together.
While we were revisiting a musical and physical place, it also felt like we were finding new sounds and emotional textures along the way.

Magari parlo a me stesso, comunque il disco è bello, ed è esattamente come ce lo si aspettava. Direi un seguito di Morning Phase, a metà strada con Sea Change. Quando va su tonalità più scure, soprattutto con l'orchestrazione, sembra che il cielo si faccia nuvoloso e prossimo al temporale. Il Beck indie-alternativo e fluorescente è così lontano che ci può essere chi lo detesta, e al contempo adora questa versione figlia di Nick Drake e Cat Stevens. Il mixaggio di Nigel Godrich lo avvicina anche ai Radiohead da In Rainbows in poi.
