Coyne a Spin:
We want to go in so many strange directions and sometimes we're unfocused and sometimes we're just so wishy washy. I think it must be like being a cook in the kitchen -- you're preparing this great thing, but by the time it's ready you're sick of it because you've been smelling it, you've got it in your hair and in your fingers and all that."

"It's great and thrilling but kind of scary because you just don't know if it's going to work," he added.

Coyne:
For the Karen O tracks, I just called her up in her hotel room and we just did it right over the telephone. It's pretty absurd.
We have this weird mathematician guy from Germany doing some spoken word stuff on the record

Il rischio e' notevole, ammetto di non avere buoni presentimenti.

sto cercando di capirci qualcosa

un commento negativo di un ascoltatore:
No thanks, Flaming Lips, for making this whole album.
A sore dissapointment. Bombastic drumming and a lot of spacey vocals can't successfully fill the space of a double-album if they don't have a strong musical skeleton to drape themselves on.
There are things I like in here, pieces of the first song and 'Silver Trembling Hands', but the rest of the album is so detached and aimless, so overly serious and self-important ('I Can Be a Frog' not an exception. It is embarrassing.) that I can't see myself coming back for repeat listens. I'll have to listen to this again when I can more carefully, rather than just streaming, but on first listen-through it is an exhausting dissapointment.
I'm not trying to be contrary to all the rave-reviews that are coming out. I sincerely want to be excited about a new Flaming Lips release, but the stuff that has come after Yoshimi has all been upsettingly lackluster. The Lips are getting tired and running out of tricks and don't you wish it was '95 again?
un commento positivo:
It's like the best Mothers Temple album ever. A 70 minute mindfuck of loud guitars, explosive drums and Wayne (and occasionally Stephen and Karen O) babbling and wailing about Love and Death and all that Stuff. Not every song is great (as in some are just overly weird, a couple just meander around without doing much) but they all have something interesting going on. Where Mystics was full of weird bleeps and bloops and strange fart-like noises that sort of detracted from the overall quality, Embryonic has wonderful guitar squeals and random bits of keyboard and little snippets of modified vocals that completely match the tone of the music and keep things interesting.

Favorites: Worm Mountain rocks me faceless, and Watch The Planets is their best closer since at least Bad Days. See The Leaves, Hex, Silver Trembling Hands are also quite great.

Not Favorites: Some of the songs I'm not too keen on now, with four listens in, I feel like a may begin to like more later, so we'll see... But for now, Powerless doesn't seem like it has enough musical ideas to justify its seven minutes, and The Impulse falls a little flat for me. The jury's still out on I Can Be A Frog.

Sono in ascolto. Per me è partito bene.

Edit: Oh a me è piaciuto non poco. Certo è da risentire, 70 minuti di roba pissichedelica non si digeriscono con un boccone, ma qualche sapore buono m'è rimasto in bocca. Vabè, ci ripenso domani, buonanotte.
