Bruce Springsteen

Post by Shaun » 15 Jul 2009 17:06

Born to Run e Nebraska ok, ci siamo, ma poi? The River? Ditemi, fatevi avanti.

Uh, caschi a fagiuolo, ho giusto in mano il primo draft della traduzione inglese di questo, che mi ha rovinato le giornate lavorative di settimana scorsa – uno sbattone infinito, però ora so tutto su Springsteen pur conoscendo solo The Ghost of Tom Joad (che mi piace). Nebraska, The River e Darkness on the Edge of Town, a quanto capisco, sono i migliori, ma io boh, non ho mai approfondito.

Segno intanto.

Born to Run (1975)
Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978)
The River (1980)
Nebraska (1982)

anni 90 il nulla

We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions (2006) > questo, fatto di cover di Seeger, m'è piaciuto davvero tanto

Uè! Me state a provocà?

Cito Scaruffi:
If the rules to judge the significance of an artist are that a) he be indifferent to fads and trends; b) that his lyrics dig deep into his era and resonate with the souls of millions of people; c) that each record be, de facto, a concept album; d) that each song send shivers down the spine even without a catchy melody; then Springsteen is one of the greatest of all times.
I dischi da ascoltare sono quelli citati da AFX, a me comunque piacciono tutti fino a Born in the U.S.A., però quelli dopo a parte The Ghost of Tom Joad (trascurabile a parte la titletrack) li ho ascoltati poche volte, volevo comunque approfondire Tunnel of Love e The Rising.

Now all them things that seemed so important
Well mister they vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don't remember, Mary acts like she don't care
But I remember us riding in my brother's car
Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir
At night on them banks I'd lie awake
And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take
Now those memories come back to haunt me, they haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse that sends me
Down to the river though I know the river is dry

(come la canta! e guardate i volti del pubblico prima dell'applauso)

Last night I heard your voice
You were crying, crying, you were so alone
You said your love had never died
You were waiting for me at home
Put on my jacket, I ran through the woods
I ran till I thought my chest would explode
There in the clearing, beyond the highway
In the moonlight, our wedding house shone
I rushed through the yard, I burst through the front door
My head pounding hard, up the stairs I climbed
The room was dark, our bed was empty
Then I heard that long whistle whine
And I dropped to my knees, hung my head and cried

Everybody's got a secret Sonny
Something that they just can't face
Some folks spend their whole lives trying to keep it
They carry it with them every step that they take
Till some day they just cut it loose
Cut it loose or let it drag `em down
Where no one asks any questions
Or looks too long in your face
In the darkness on the edge of town

There were ghosts in the eyes of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets
They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
you hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind, so Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win

Well we found the things we loved, they were crushed and dying in the dirt
We thought we could pick up the pieces, and get away without getting hurt
But they caught us at the state line, burned our cars in one last fire fight
And sent us running burned and blind, woahhh, chasing something in the night

Last night I was out driving
Coming home at the end of the working day
I was riding alone through the drizzling rain
On a deserted stretch of a county two-lane
When I cam upon a wreck on the highway
There was blood and glass all over
And there was nobody there but me
As the rain tumbled down hard and cold
I seen a young man lying by the side of the road
He cried Mister, won't you help me please

An ambulance finally came and took him to Riverside
I watched as they drove him away
And I thought of a girlfriend or a young wife
And a state trooper knocking in the middle of the night
To say your baby died in a wreck on the highway

Sometimes I sit up in the darkness
And I watch my baby as she sleeps
Then I climb in bed and I hold her tight
I just lay there awake in the middle of the night
Thinking 'bout the wreck on the highway
The better the singer's voice is, the harder it is to believe what they're saying.

A me lui non piace troppo come paroliere, almeno dai testi riportati e da quelli di Born To Run (che e' quello che conosco meglio). Mi piace come li interpreta pero'.
